What Language Do They Speak in Brazil? Ask Mrs. Woods Class 02/19/2012
Thanks to Mrs. Woods second-grade student Madison, Nina and Ana Jorge, 6, visited the class Friday, Feb. 17, to teach the class about their homeland, Brazil.
Ninas real name is Bruna, but everyone in the United States calls her Nina. She was an exchange student at Oregon Davis in high school. Nina shared, I was an exchange student years ago, and I was hosted by Maddies mothers family. I graduated in 1993 and am now coordinator at a bilingual school in Brazil.
While visiting, she shared with Mrs. Woods class a program called Mocking Bird, in which Brazilian students send e-mail messages to the states and American students send messages back. Mrs. Woods class will participate in this program this year and are excited to learn more from other students. Principal Mills said, When students are engaged in asking peers questions about new experiences their learning is enhanced. We are excited to share our love of learning with the bilingual Brazilian children. Its a great opportunity for Jefferson to use technology such as Skype on Mac computers to talk to children so far away but still using the exact same computers and programs.

St. Patricks Day
March 4th, 2011 - 2nd grade
Carnival Week: lots of joy and celebration!
The wish tree is full: we put all our wishes on it! They are simple, but strong and expressive! We finished our holiday game; every child brought some of his adventures, and, from that, we made the scenario on the board, numbered the houses from start to finish, and the game was really fun!
We are transforming math into pleasant moments. Different materials have enhanced our records. The children are increasingly comfortable with the numbers.

WEEKLY NEWS 1st GRADE – MARCH 21 – 25, 2011
Em Language Arts introduzimos partes do corpo utilizando fotos no SmartBoard e em seguida registramos no Concept wall booklet. No nosso Shared Reading lemos Chapter 4 do livro Junie B. First grader.

WEEKLY REPORT - 2ndGRADE
Continuing what we studied this quarter, we read some Carnival songs and get to know important composers like Braguinha and Chiquinha Gonzaga. We also saw works of art depicting Carnival of that time, according to Debret's view.

Playing "SPLISH'SPLASH" we had fun and exercised mental calculation without realizing ... Every move, all kinds of vibration: screams of satisfaction, curious eyes and the smile of the judges who mediated the situation.

DID YOU KNOW THAT PLANTS ARE LIVING BEEINGS?
Talking, we realized that, like human beings, plants are born, grow, grow old and die. Besides, they need to eat and drink water to survive, therefore they are beings with life! We found many plants around the school and made a beautiful work of art printing their characteristics with chalk on white sulphite paper.
Nothing better to watch how the plants are then to have our own plantation in the class...

"I have never had such a fun science class!" (Antonella 18/March/2011)
